Study Assistant

Welcome:

Welcome to Qi Journal's Chinese language study assistant. This section was designed to help beginners practice their Chinese language studies with particular focus on writing with correct stroke order, tonal inflection, and pinyin romanization.

These lessons follow the popular book, "Practical Chinese Reader I", published by Beijing Languages Institute. This book is the first volume of a comprehensive set (available in our online catalog).

This page is not designed to replace books, tapes, or human teachers...all of which are invaluable in learning a new language.

Instructions:

Select a lesson and the items you want to display by using the form in the left column.

Use this like "flash" cards, by omitting (unchecking) the items you want to practice and review. For instance you can turn off "Chinese" to practice your writing, then turn it back on to check your work. "Tones" to practice your speech, etc.

No special software is needed to display the Chinese characters, but you will need "flash" browser plugin to view animations and "quicktime" plugin to hear pronunciations.

Most of all, have fun and enjoying learning on the the world's great languages.
